Kid 1 and I love to hike! And this was the first time that we hiked Ptarmigan Cirque (the first of many – it’s incredible!).
Ptarmigan Cirque is the cirque between Mount Arethusa and Mount Rae at the Highwood Pass in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada.
The hike itself is relatively short and can be done in just a couple of hours – including time to just stand in appreciation of one particular spot along the hike where things open up and they leave you awestruck. Seniors and kids can do this hike – but it isn’t easy by any definition. It’s a leg and lung burner – stretch, wear proper footwear, and pack water with you. If you have a LifeStraw in your pack (like we always do), there are some great springs and waterfalls you can drink from at the top.
We’ve completed this hike at least six times – it’s just that good. We normally make a day of it – starting with Ptarmigan Cirque and then hitting two or three shorter hikes along the drive back into the city.
